| Lagos is an important tourist town now but there are still many architectural signs of its ancient past. Europe's first building used as a slave market dates back to 1445. It was a centre for the trade in exotic products like ivory, gold and silver, brought from Africa. Here, Henry the Navigator equipped the caravels that opened the way to the Era of the Discoveries.
