Portimão, of prehistoric origin, is situated on the right bank of the river Arade, since early times the access to Silves, sailed by conquerors, pirates and traders. Be it Vikings, Phoenicians or Arabs, all knew about the importance of Silves, in Arab times a big harbour and capital of the Algarve. |
