The Castle is visible from every point of the village. The Arabs built the Castle of Aljezur in the 10th century. It was one of the last castles to be conquered by the Christians in the Algarve.
At the moment it is in ruins, only the walls of the 16th century and two towers remained,
a round one and another square one.
At the bottom of the hill of the castle, is a spring - a Fonte das Mentiras (Spring of Lies) -, associated to the legend of a beautiful Moorish girl and the conquest of the fortress.
