Silves Cathedral

Construction of the church planned as a latin cross with three chapels in red sandstone,  was finished in the 15th century. The mortal remains of bishops and other Silves notables lie under the pavement of both aisles and in the walls. Before he was transfered to the Batalha monastery, King D. João II was buried here. A tumular stone indicates his grave.
The cathedral has a very beautiful image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição.
